Keeping Your Paint Looking New in the Florida Sun

3 min readBy Auto Wholesale Group

South Florida is about the toughest place there is on car paint. Constant sun, salt in the air, heat, and the occasional acid rain all work against the finish. Here's what's happening and how to stay ahead of it.

What the sun and salt do

UV breaks down the clear coat over time, which is what makes paint fade, chalk, and eventually peel. Salt air speeds up rust anywhere the paint is already chipped or scratched. Left alone, a small chip becomes a rust spot, and a rust spot becomes a panel that has to be replaced.

The early warning signs

Watch for clear coat that looks cloudy or feels rough, color that's fading unevenly, and any brown staining or bubbling around chips and seams. Those are the moments to act, while the fix is still small.

What actually protects the finish

Wash off salt and grime regularly, park in the shade when you can, and don't ignore chips — a quick touch-up keeps moisture out of the metal. Every so often, a real detail with a machine polish and a fresh sealant brings back the shine and adds a layer of protection the factory finish has lost.

When it's time for paint

If the clear coat is already peeling or the color has gone flat, a proper repaint — done with the right prep and booth time — protects the metal and makes an older car look new again. Stop by and we'll tell you straight whether it needs a detail or a refinish.
